Flights of fancy
The urbanization of endangered kākā parrots may be both saving them from extinction and hastening their demise due to new perils in their urban environment. This surreal series explores how kākā may be responding to these challenges when we're not watching.

Birds of a feather
My ongoing “Birds of a Feather” series celebrates the beauty of birds, with a focus on the rare and endangered birds of Aotearoa - New Zealand. Each artwork is available as archival fine-art limited edition prints in a variety of sizes. Ten percent of the artist’s proceeds goes towards wildlife organizations.

Dark & Moody Still-life
My floral still-life art is inspired by the beauty of death, decay, and darkness. The images are dark and moody, heavily textured, and although they evoke feelings of anxiety they also channel hope and perseverance in the face of the inevitable. I enjoy augmenting my wildlife photoartistry, which is my passion, with still-life photoartistry because it gives a welcome counterpoint. In the studio, there is time to contemplate and consider each shot rather than waiting on the vagaries of temperamental birds then snapping into action so as to not miss the shot - a different type of patience and a different approach to photography is needed.

Visions of Zealandia - Solo Exhibition June-Aug 2017
Imagine a verdant valley overflowing with native birds and plants because they're protected from introduced predators; an oasis in a modern city; a chance to reconnect with what we've lost - and you get a glimpse of the Zealandia Vision. In my exhibition at Zealandia EcoSanctuary, I am presenting work from three series that explore this vision: • "Birds of a feather" where the striking and subtle colours of the rare and endangered birds that live at Zealandia are celebrated in a series of painterly portraits. From the shy kākā kura to the stately tūī, each bird is already a work of art. • "Visions of Zealandia" illustrates the struggle for wild birds adapting to living in a modern biophilic city and the vision of taking 500 years to restore the pre-human ecosystem - the length of time it takes for the forest canopy to recover to maturity. • "Flights of fancy" where my imagination takes over and roles are reversed - what would the curious and intelligent kākā parrots do in a post-human world?
